The Washington, D.C., area was well represented in this year's MLB Draft with the selection of five high school senior standouts.

Oakton's Joe Rizzo, Flint Hill School's Khalil Lee, West Potomac's Jamie Sara, Georgetown Prep's Matt Mervis and Walt Whitman's Sean Cook all heard their names called during the 40-round selection meeting June 9-11.

Rizzo, a left-handed hitting third baseman, was the highest tabbed of the group, falling to the Seattle Mariners with the No. 50 overall pick.

Ranked as Baseball America's No. 40 overall prospect, Rizzo amassed a .389 batting average with four home runs, 12 RBIs and 14 runs scored this season while leading the Cougars to an 8-12 finish.
