All-Star Voters Whiffed On Two Nationals

Four Washington Nationals were selected to Major League Baseball's All-Star Game July 12. It should have been six.

Outfielder Bryce Harper will play in his third All-Star Game at age 23. Second baseman Daniel Murphy, catcher Wilson Ramos and pitcher Stephen Strasburg will join him. All solid choices for the National League East leaders.

But what about pitcher Max Scherzer and shortstop Danny Espinosa? Surely, they should have merited more consideration.

OK, I get it. You can't have everybody. But Scherzer is holding hitters to a league-best .195 average. If he would just stop giving up home runs, Scherzer would be unbeatable. Scherzer's stats look ordinary at 9-6 with a 3.21 ERA, but remember the 20-strikeout game against Detroit May 11? When Scherzer is motivated, watch out.
