Training camp has just started and Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden is already playing the waiting game.

First-round receiver Josh Doctson remains sidelined after an Achilles injury forced him to miss most of the offseason camps. Guard Shawn Lauvao, tight end Derek Carrier and receiver Reggie Diggs also joined Doctson on the physically unable to perform list, meaning they'll return whenever they are ready.

Lauvao might start this season, while Doctson is an expected key red zone receiver. But there's no timetable for their return. It might be soon, but soon sometimes stretches to later. Until then, the Redskins have to move on without knowing three positions. And this is before the first contact practice Aug. 1, when others will eventually be sidelined by the sport's physical nature.

Doctson has worked on individual drills during practice, so he's close to returning. The Redskins want the 6-foot-2, athletic rookie to catch balls in the back of the end zone. He probably won't rank among the team's top four in receptions this year, but he could be their leader in touchdowns.
