Jonathan W. Gottlieb

Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP is pleased to announce that Jonathan W. Gottlieb has joined the firm’s Energy, Environmental and Commodities Practice Group as a partner in the Washington DC office.

With more than 25 years of experience—in federal government, private practice and as corporate counsel for a large international power developer—Mr. Gottlieb advises energy and utility clients in the development, construction, financing, acquisition, divestiture and operation of energy generation, transmission, production and processing facilities across the United States and in more than 17 countries.

“The addition of Jonathan helps bolster the reputation of Sutherland’s strong energy and environmental practice,” said Sutherland Managing Partner Mark D. Wasserman. “His extensive experience representing some of the most active energy project developers and owners, construction companies and vendors in the United States further strengthens our transactional, regulatory and construction contracting capabilities in the energy sector, and will give our clients an advantage in an increasingly challenging regulatory environment. Jonathan is an outstanding lawyer and we are delighted to have him on board.”

Mr. Gottlieb represents a wide array of energy companies, including electric and natural gas utilities, independent power producers and developers, utility subsidiaries, and midstream oil and gas companies on complex transactional and regulatory matters involving natural gas and petroleum products pipelines, electric power generation and transmission, and energy project development.

Mr. Gottlieb also has substantial experience counseling clients with regard to multimillion-dollar engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts, and in the use of diverse fuel types, including biomass, coal, wind, solar and hydroelectric, and emerging energy storage technologies.

“Jonathan is a natural complement to our group, and his transactional, regulatory and client counseling experience combined with the legal needs of his strong client base melds extremely well with the practices at the firm,” said Sutherland’s Energy, Environmental and Commodities Practice Group Leader Herbert J. Short, Jr. “He is the latest step in our team’s expansion and a welcome addition to our Washington office.”

Sutherland’s Energy, Environmental and Commodities Practice Group includes more than 70 lawyers who act for crude oil, natural gas, LNG, electric power, electric cooperative, renewable and alternative energy, oil pipeline and nuclear energy clients. The practice expanded internationally in March 2014 by combining with Arbis LLP in London and Geneva.
