Are the Washington Redskins ready?

After the softest training camp/preseason since Jim Zorn's sideline "Z screens" were used to shade players from the sun in 2009, the Redskins open the season against Super Bowl contender Pittsburgh Steelers at FedEx Field Sept. 12. It might as well be Heinz Field for all the Steelers fans waving their Terrible Towels.

It's a telling game for the Redskins. The Steelers are a possible Super Bowl contender playing shorthanded in the opener. But Washington doesn't seem ready to exploit a weakened superior team. Instead, the Redskins seemingly spent the preseason developing the practice squad and releasing players instead of readying their starters. Why, someone might get hurt? Indeed, running backs Matt Jones and Keith Marshall were hurt on seemingly simple plays.
