Meridium expanded from the home office of software entrepreneur Bonz Hart in 1993 to a global company with more than 430 employees worldwide and offices in Bangalore, Dubai, Perth, Singapore and elsewhere around the world — with corporate headquarters stubbornly lodged in Roanoke.
Hart, now 60 years old and Meridium’s CEO, announced Wednesday that the company he founded in Bedford County has become a wholly owned subsidiary of GE Digital, a division of General Electric — an evolving industrial giant recently described by The New York Times as a “124-year-old software start-up.”
“This is not about cashing out,” Hart said, noting he had always promised the company he would focus on opportunities to better serve markets, customers and Meridium workers.
“We could be a small player and have a loyal following or have the opportunity to scale at a much better, faster pace,” he said.
