Fantasy Baseball Pitchers Who Surprised In 2016

Last week, we took a look at the hitters who surprised and disappointed fantasy owners in 2016, and now we'll look at the pitchers. One of the draft strategies heading into the season was anchoring your team with two stud starters. However, many elite pitchers disappointed this year and will be highlighted later in the week.

Looking at the pitchers who surprised proves, once again, fantasy owners can find productive starters later in drafts.

Pitchers Who Surprised

1. Boston Red Sox Starting Pitcher Rick Porcello -- The right-hander was drafted, on average, 317th overall as the 132nd pitcher back in March, according to FantasyPros.com, and is now one of the favorites to win the American League Cy Young award. In 2016, Porcello has a 3.11 ERA and 0.99 WHIP, along with 183 strikeouts and 22 wins. This is a pitcher who, entering this season, had a 4.50-plus ERA in four of the last six years; so to even think he would be in the Cy Young discussion is a huge surprise. Since Porcello may have been undrafted in some leagues, he easily earns the top of this list.
