The Washington Redskins defense is in big trouble.
It doesn't matter that it wrestled away two fumbles and intercepted Cleveland's last-gasp comeback drive. The Browns are the NFL's worst team at 0-4, and the Redskins were fortunate to win, 31-20, Oct. 2.
Washington is the NFL's worst third-down defense -- by far. As in the distance from Cleveland to Cairo .... and back.
Opponents have converted 27-of-47 third downs. That's 57 percent, far from the goal of 35 percent by head coach Jay Gruden, who said, "We have to clean up the tackling."
