It's almost impossible to fathom that, until Nov. 2, Mark Turgeon hadn't landed a basketball recruit from Baltimore City during his tenure as head coach at Maryland. Think about it. Turgeon's greatest attribute is widely considered to be his recruiting ability. Assistant coach and Baltimore native Bino Ranson is highly regarded on the AAU circuit and with athletes in Charm City.
(I once walked around Towson Town Center with Ranson during the busy holiday season and saw no fewer than 20 young people come to greet the coach during a 10-15 minute span. It was like being with the Baltimore basketball version of the Pied Piper.)
Mount St. Joseph four-star guard Darryl Morsell changed all of that when he announced he would head to College Park, Md., following his senior season.
