The Redskins' Bucks Should Stop With Kirk Cousins

Sports talk radio is based on the "what-if" game. And there's no bigger point of conjecture than the future of Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins.

But "what if the Redskins let Cousins go next season rather than pay him at least $24 million and instead draft a young passer" is just ludicrous. Team history says it rarely works.

Of the team's top 20 career leaders in passing yardage, only 10 were drafted by the team. Sammy Baugh was the best homegrown passer at third overall, but that was 1937. Mark Rypien was fourth and only managed five good seasons in Washington before leaving just one year after winning the Super Bowl in 1991.
