With about six minutes remaining in Maryland's second Big Ten matchup of the year Jan. 1, the Terps were ahead, 65-53, over visiting Nebraska, and Maryland looked primed to defeat the Cornhuskers for its second consecutive victory to begin conference play.
Maryland's 12-point lead was keyed by a 32-12 run, which lasted about 10 minutes in the second half. The Terps' run was led by freshman guard Kevin Huerter (26 points) and junior guard Melo Trimble (11 points in the second half). It was capped by a free throw from senior forward Damonte Dodd, who returned Jan. 1 after missing five games with an MCL sprain, with 6:02 to play in the game.
Dodd's free throw -- the 65th point of the afternoon for the Terps -- was the last point Maryland would score. Nebraska threw a 1-3-1 zone at Maryland, which the Terps couldn't solve. Maryland's pace slowed and it couldn't find the same open looks from 3-point range off screens. The Cornhuskers closed on a 14-0 run to win, 67-65.
