Five Things To Know About Nationals Prospect Pedro Severino

Checking in at No. 9 on Baseball America's annual list of the top 10 Washington Nationals prospects is catcher Pedro Severino. Here are five things to know about the 23-year-old Dominican Republic native.

1. Got Cups Of Coffee In The Majors The Last Two Seasons

Severino got just four plate appearances across two games in 2015 but got a little better taste of the big leagues in 2016. He started the 2016 campaign with the Triple-A Syracuse Chiefs but was called up and made one start behind the plate for the Nationals April 28. After returning to Syracuse, he was recalled by Washington July 30, when catcher Jose Lobaton hit the 15-day disabled list.

Severino appeared in seven games after being recalled but got sent back down to Syracuse Aug. 19. He came right back to the Nationals, however, once rosters expanded in September. Overall, the 6-foot, 215-pound backstop appeared in 16 games in 2016. He hit .321/.441/.607 in 34 plate appearances, hitting two home runs in the process.
