Five Things To Know About Nationals Prospect Carter Kieboom

Checking in at No. 8 on Baseball America's annual list of the top 10 Washington Nationals prospects is shortstop Carter Kieboom. Here are five things to know about the 19-year-old Georgia native.

1. Compensation For Jordan Zimmermann

Kieboom was drafted 28th overall in the 2016 draft out Walton High School in Marietta, Ga., by the Nationals. The pick, though, wasn't the Nationals' first rounder -- it was their first of two consecutive compensation picks for losing Zimmermann and shortstop Ian Desmond to free agency.

Kieboom was technically compensation for losing Zimmermann to the Detroit Tigers. Zimmermann was originally drafted by the Nationals in the second round of the 2007 amateur draft and went on to have a terrific career in Washington, winning 70 games and posting a 3.32 ERA during parts of seven seasons (178 starts).
