Virginia Tech's 2017 spring commencement speaker will be Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg, the university announced Thursday.
Sandberg, who oversees all of Facebook's business operations, has been with the company since 2008 and previously worked for Google and was chief of staff for United States Secretary of the Treasury Lawrence Summers.
She is also founder of Leanin.org, named for her 2013 bestseller book "Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead," which examines why women's progress in the workplace has stalled and offers solutions for the problem.
