Miller & Chevalier Appoints Preston L. Pugh to Litigation Practice

4/20/17

Miller & Chevalier Chartered today announced that Preston L. Pugh joined the firm as a Member in the Litigation department. Pugh counsels and defends clients in complex civil and criminal litigation, internal investigations, and government investigations. His practice includes matters involving the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), the False Claims Act (FCA), government contracts, and corporate ethics and governance. He advises clients on issues related to compliance monitoring, is a twice-appointed compliance monitor and helped draft the first iteration of the American Bar Association’s standards for corporate monitors. Prior to joining Miller & Chevalier, Pugh was proud to serve as a partner at one of the longest established small firms in Chicago, Pugh, Jones & Johnson, P.C.

Pugh counts himself as fortunate to have learned from “two giants” in the legal community in Chicago, the founders of his former firm. "I am equally as fortunate to join Miller & Chevalier, a firm with fantastic, welcoming lawyers who are known for their investigations work,” Pugh said. “I knew as an in-house counsel that you don’t need a firm of 2,000 attorneys to conduct impactful investigations. Miller & Chevalier lawyers demonstrate that daily through their solid global presence.”

Pugh began his career as an appellate attorney at the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) and later served as an Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) in the Northern District of Illinois. He also has notable in-house experience, having worked for several years as the Senior Counsel for Investigations and Litigation for General Electric Healthcare.

“Preston’s prior work on investigations, as a compliance monitor, as a prosecutor, and as an in-house Senior Counsel for Investigations and Litigation both expands and complements our existing capabilities,” said Mark Rochon, Chair of Miller & Chevalier’s Litigation practice. “His ability to examine an issue from all angles is a hallmark of his work in the government, in private practice, and as an in-house attorney, and that perspective will provide an immediate benefit to the firm’s clients across all industries.”

“Preston is a terrific addition for Miller & Chevalier,” said Anthony F. Shelley, Chair of Miller & Chevalier’s Executive Committee. “His prior investigations and compliance work make him an excellent fit for the Litigation practice, and I am pleased to welcome him to the firm.”

Pugh has led investigations in every region of the United States and abroad in Western Europe, China, South Korea, Brazil, and Canada. He routinely represents clients in the transportation, pharmaceutical, banking, military, and higher education industries, among others.

In the community, Pugh is actively involved in LINK Unlimited Scholars, an organization that connects economically disadvantaged African American high school students with personal mentors and resources to succeed. He is also a member of the Trial Bar for the Northern District of Illinois and of Leadership Greater Chicago’s class of 2012. He was named a “Leading Lawyer” in commercial litigation by Law Bulletin every year from 2012 to 2107.

He earned a B.A. from Cornell University and a J.D. from the New York University School of Law.
