Innovative Housing-Farming Community Proposed For Hogwaller

Hogwaller Weed is not likely to become a real or legal product unless drug laws are changed, but a development featuring 30 apartments and an urban farm in that fabled, far corner of the Belmont-Carlton neighborhood is a possibility.

Located near Moores Creek along Nassau Street, the proposed project, known as Hogwaller Farm, covers about nine acres in Charlottesville and Albemarle County.

Adding to the ongoing rise of development in that section of town, developer Justin Shimp is planning to build two multi-story apartment buildings and to reserve space for farmland, a greenhouse and a commercial farm stand. But he needs rezoning approvals and a special-use permit for the proposed density for the residential development.
