Virginia Beach Pier Owners Say They're Withdrawing Their Plan To Build A New Pier

A group that has been working for more than two years on a plan to build a new Oceanfront pier with the city said Thursday that it is withdrawing its proposal.

They made the decision after the city reopened the bidding process last week in response to restaurant owners’ concerns over lack of public input and favoritism for developer Bruce Thompson and the group of families who originally pitched an unsolicited idea for the pier at 15th Street.

In a letter to the city, R.J. Nutter, the group’s attorney, said his clients would be open to continuing talks if no other “acceptable or responsive bids” come in.
