St. Joseph (Conn.) High School quarterback David Summers, who announced his commitment to the Maryland football program May 21, said on Glenn Clark Radio May 24 that he's confident he's set to join a program on the upswing.
"I really feel like Maryland's on the rise. I mean, last year they caught some tough breaks with injuries, especially the two quarterbacks that got injured," Summers said. "If that doesn't happen, I feel like they're a bowl contender that year. Back-to-back years they signed top-25 recruiting classes and [head coach DJ Durkin] going into his third season, I really feel like this year, if not next year, they'll be contending for hopefully a Big Ten championship. So I feel like the program only has upside from here."
The Terps made it to the Quick Lane Bowl during Durkin's inaugural season in 2016, but slumped to 4-8 in 2017 after injuries to quarterbacks Tyrrell Pigrome and Kasim Hill torpedoed the season. However, the Terps could well bounce back in 2018 if they stay healthy at the quarterback position and their efforts in recruiting continue to bear fruit.
