One of Maryland guard Kevin Huerter's former coaches isn't surprised to see his pupil's stock rising ahead of the 2018 NBA Draft, nor is he taken aback by how well Huerter is handling the process ahead of the NCAA's May 30 deadline for players without agents to withdraw from the draft.
Jim Hart, who coached Huerter with the Albany (N.Y.) City Rocks of the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League, said he had dinner with Huerter in Chicago May 18. The NBA Draft Combine, during which Huerter starred, took place in Chicago from May 17-19. Hart isn't involved in Huerter's decision-making process, but discussed the calmness he saw from Huerter with the deadline looming.
"He's just so comfortable everywhere he is. He looked completely comfortable in that setting," Hart said. "The way he talked about how he played, it just seemed like he's talking about a walk in the park. He's a cool cucumber. He's one of those guys, right? Never too high, never too low. I think he absorbed it all, he took it all in."
