Former Towson Shortstop Richie Palacios Flourishing In Indians' Farm System

For many Major League Baseball draft picks, the high of being selected in the First-Year Player Draft is followed by the realities of life in the minor leagues: long bus rides, a higher level of play and a drop in performance.

As such, the road to the big leagues is a long and winding one for most players. But it's been full steam ahead for former Towson University shortstop Richie Palacios since he was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the third round June 6.

Palacios, the highest-drafted position player in Towson baseball history, hit .411/.477/.589 during 20 games with the Short Season-A Mahoning Valley Scrappers of the New York-Penn League. He was promoted to the Low-A Lake County Captains of the Midwest League July 20. He has four hits during 13 plate appearances with the Captains as of July 24.
