Leading Online MBA Program Founded by Jack Welch Launches Human Resources Leadership Concentration

7/26/18

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Jack Welch Management Institute (JWMI) launched a human resources leadership concentration for its top-ranked online MBA program aimed at developing professionals who can build leaders and careers within the workplace. Built on the principle that people are a company’s most important asset, the new program combines leadership and business skills from the school’s core MBA curriculum with essential talent management tools and aims to elevate the role and reputation of HR from a service department to a strategic driver of organizational success.

“Human Resources is the most critical function within any organization. What could possibly be more important than who gets hired, developed, promoted, or moved out the door?” Jack Welch, renowned business leader and founder of JWMI, said. “Through our newest concentration, students will use our proven management practices to identify and retain great talent, build careers and help forge the kind of teams that change lives and companies.”

Welch was known throughout his career as a champion of the human resources function and brings his proven people management practices to this new MBA concentration. Students will gain specialized skills to develop talent and build their company’s leadership pipeline, implement differentiation and incentives to retain top talent, align the competencies and behaviors of the workforce with the strategic goals of the organization, and position the HR role as a strategic partner to the C-suite.

As part of the Experts of Practice lecture series, students will have the opportunity to learn from Jack Welch, Bill Conaty, former head of Human Resources at GE, and HR experts from today’s leading organizations, such as Netflix, Delta Air Lines and the HR Policy Association, as well as executives from Starbucks, McDonald’s, Home Depot and more. HR-specialty courses include “Recruit, Develop, Assess, Reward, Retain,” “Strategic Partnering with the C-Suite,” and “Lead Change by Putting People First.”

Since becoming part of Strayer University in 2012, JWMI has quickly grown, graduating over 1,200 working professionals. Designed to serve working professionals with a desire to galvanize their careers, Welch built JWMI to drive real results for his students, and sixty-eight percent of the school’s MBA students receive a promotion or raise while enrolled.1 JWMI is ranked as a top online MBA program by The Princeton Review, Top MBA and CEO Magazine. JWMI currently enrolls a diverse population of more than 1,800 students, representing 47 states and 56 countries.
