Four months removed from its historic upset of No. 1 overall seed Virginia during last season's NCAA Tournament, UMBC is still basking in the glow of its program-defining victory.
The Retrievers, who became the first No. 16 seed in NCAA history to defeat a No. 1 seed, were nominated for the "Best Moment" award at the ESPYs award show July 18. Though Minnesota Vikings receiver Stefon Diggs won the award for his game-winning catch against the New Orleans Saints during the NFL playoffs in January, Retrievers head coach Ryan Odom said he and his players were grateful for the opportunity.
"I've told the players we've already won by just having that experience," Odom said on Glenn Clark Radio July 26. "It was unlike anything we've been a part of. ... It was a special time."
