If you're a New York Yankees fan, you'd say the developments during the past week were revolting. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, it was the first time the Boston Red Sox have swept a series of at least four games against a team at least 30 games above .500 since 1939, when they also swept the Yankees.

The sweep wouldn't have occurred if left-hander Aroldis Chapman had been able to hold onto a three-run lead entering the bottom of the ninth inning. The Red Sox are 12-25 (.324) when trailing by three or more runs this season, according to ESPN. The Red Sox have the best record in such situations this season.

The Yankees have only lost two times when leading by three or more runs entering the ninth inning throughout the past 10 seasons, according to ESPN. The Red Sox were also the Yankees' opponent the last time it occurred on September 15, 2016. The Red Sox are 2-53 in such games against the Yankees, while the rest of the league is 0-430 against the Yankees.
