Towson University swimmer Jack Saunderson's recent showing at the 2018 Phillips 66 United States Nationals and World Championship Trials in Irvine, Calif. in late July put him on pace to reach the pinnacle of his sport.
Saunderson placed fourth in the 100-meter butterfly and sixth in the 50-meter fly at Nationals, positioning himself to be named to the U.S. national swim team that will be announced in September. The team will compete at the 2018 Pan Pacific Championships, the 2019 World Championships, the 2019 World University Games and the 2019 Pan American Championships. His performance also has him on target to compete for a spot on the 2020 U.S. Olympic team.
The Laurel, Md. native and Reservoir High School graduate said he was "thrilled and humbled" by his performance and the opportunities that may present themselves. But that's not where his focus is right now. Saunderson's thoughts never drift too far from the college team that has helped him achieve his personal success.
