The Maryland men's soccer team hosts three-time defending national champion Stanford at 6 p.m. Aug. 31, and Terps head coach Sasho Cirovski is thrilled for the opportunity to play in front of a national television audience on Fox Sports 1, the first time a college soccer game has aired on that network.
"It's extremely significant for all of college soccer and great for our program, but personally for me, it's very significant," Cirovski said. "Back in 2005, I was the architect that was able to get college soccer -- Friday night games -- actually on Fox Soccer Channel. That channel has gone away, and we lost any TV games on Fox.
"So for FS1, now the big boy, to be able to [broadcast] a college soccer game, it's appropriate that it's our game at home and it's appropriate that it's against three-time reigning champion Stanford. It's going to be a huge night in College Park, [Md.] I'm excited about it, for the challenge of Stanford and also for the visibility that FS1 will bring to college soccer and our program."
