The Maryland football team dropped its first game of the season with a 35-14 loss to Temple Sept. 15. The Terps' home opener began emotionally as the team ran out toward fallen teammate Jordan McNair's No. 79, which is emblazoned behind an end zone. The team also carried out a flag bearing the same number.
Once the game began, Temple quickly asserted its dominance, and the Terps were unable to slow down the Owls' offense nor generate any offense of their own. The Terps' two touchdowns on the day came from the team's defense and a special teams unit, respectively.
"I didn't do a good enough job, and as coach that falls on me, flat out," interim head coach Matt Canada said. "We didn't do anything on offense today so I take full responsibility for this loss. We didn't play well enough so I would say I didn't coach well enough on offense."
