Coming off a 33-2 season in which the second loss didn't occur until the second round of the NCAA Tournament, Stevenson University women's volleyball head coach Dave Trumbo wasn't sure exactly how he or his team would react when a preseason scrimmage went horribly awry.
"We scrimmaged a school that was pretty good and we were just horrible, so you're hoping that the returners aren't wondering if the whole season is going be like that," said Trumbo, laughing. "But, in the back of my mind I'm thinking, 'Oh my God, we can't be this bad, can we?'"
The Mustangs entered the 2018 season ranked 24th nationally in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll following a season in which they hosted an NCAA regional for the first time and were ranked as high as 15th nationally.
