Baltimore Orioles manager Buck Showalter is not expected to be brought back by the organization at the end of the regular season, while general manager Dan Duquette is expected to receive a contract extension, according to a Sept. 21 report by USA Today 's Bob Nightengale.
The report came near the end of the Orioles' worst season since the franchise moved to Baltimore in 1954 and the worst season of Showalter's 20-year managerial career.
While Duquette had also been rumored to be on the chopping block as the season went on, Nightengale reported the Orioles' general manager received "rave reviews" for his work at the trade deadline. He acquired several high-level prospects in return for infielders Manny Machado and Jonathan Schoop, right-hander Kevin Gausman and others.
