10/30/18

Sophomore running back and kick returner Javon Leake has been named the Big Ten Offensive and Special Teams Player of the Week, the conference announced Oct. 29.

Leake is the first player in Big Ten history to garner both awards in the same week. The Big Ten added a Special Teams Player of the Week award prior to the 1994 football season. Michigan's Jabrill Peppers is the only other Big Ten player to win two awards in one week, being named as both Defensive Player of the Week and Special Teams Player of the Week Sept. 19, 2016.

Leake rushed for 140 yards on just five carries (28.0 ypc) and scored four touchdowns in Maryland's 63-33 win against Illinois Oct. 27. His four total touchdowns are the most for a Maryland player in a game since D.J. Adams also had four in the 2010 Military Bowl.
