Can Defense Still Dominate In Today's NFL?

As the Baltimore Ravens sit in third place in the AFC North with a record of 4-4 halfway through the season, former NFL players Trent Green and James Laurinaitis believe the Ravens' top-ranked defense may not be as important to the team's success in today's offense-driven league.

The Ravens lead the NFL in scoring defense, allowing 17.1 points per game, and lead the league in total defense. The Ravens remain the only defense to allow fewer than 300 yards per game on the season.

Despite those feats, the Ravens' defense was inconsistent throughout the first half of the season, as they were unable to contain talented offenses such as the Cincinnati Bengals and New Orleans Saints. The Ravens also allowed a season-high 36 points during their Week 8 matchup against the Carolina Panthers.
