Freshman Class To Inject Excitement, Energy Into Maryland Men's Basketball

Maryland head men's basketball coach Mark Turgeon isn't sure if this year's Terps squad is the youngest team he's ever been around, but he admits it's probably close.

Of the 11 scholarship players Turgeon has on his roster, six are freshmen and three are sophomores. In the team's first game, a home contest against Delaware Nov. 6, Turgeon's starting lineup included two freshmen in forward Jalen Smith and guard Aaron Wiggins. The other freshmen are guards Eric Ayala and Serrel Smith Jr. and forwards Ricky Lindo Jr. and Trace Ramsey.

Junior point guard Anthony Cowan Jr. may be the only upperclassman in the starting lineup throughout the season. After starting 65 games the past two seasons, Cowan is expected to be the leader of the Terps' young squad this year.
