Maryland sophomore forward Bruno Fernando has been named one of 15 players on the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year midseason watch list, announced Jan. 22 by the Atlanta Tipoff Club.
Fernando has been dominant on the defensive end for the No. 13 Maryland men's basketball team, ranking second in the Big Ten Conference in blocks per game (2.2), rebounds per game (10.4) and double-doubles (11).
The Luanda, Angola, native has been particularly effective on the glass in conference action, averaging 12.0 rebounds over the course of nine games.
