BALTIMORE, March 25, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Terbium Labs, the premier dark web intelligence company, today announced that the Omidyar Network, the philanthropic investment firm created by eBay founder Pierre Omidyar and his wife Pam Omidyar, has made an investment of $2 million in the company. To date, Terbium has raised $19 million, including investments from Glasswing Ventures and .406 Ventures. Terbium will use the new funding to accelerate product development of Matchlight, the world’s most comprehensive and only fully private dark web data intelligence system, and to expand its sales and marketing efforts to meet global demand.
Terbium’s award-winning Matchlight system offers enterprises a monitoring and search capability that protects their most critical data. The service scours the dark web for client-specific information, enabling companies to automatically search for their sensitive data without revealing it to anyone – not even Terbium. The private and automated approach to dark-web monitoring and sensitive data exposure detection helps companies minimize the damage, loss, and risk caused by data breaches. More than 10,000 users and dozens of enterprises, including Mastercard, Thomson Reuters, and the Royal Bank of Canada, have deployed Matchlight to monitor employee personal information, customer data, and sensitive intellectual property.
“Data privacy has become a defining issue of our time, affecting individuals, governments and businesses,” said Subhashish Bhadra, investment principal at Omidyar Network. “Responsible data practices can help businesses increase consumer trust, reduce regulatory risk, and create shareholder value. Terbium’s product enables that by detecting and remedying data breaches without ever receiving a corporation or individual's sensitive information."
“Data privacy is the cornerstone of our business, and we consider it a critical differentiator for our company as conversations around more responsible treatment of digital identity take hold,” said Danny Rogers, Co-Founder and CEO of Terbium Labs. “By providing intelligence based on our exclusive one-way data fingerprinting technology, Matchlight enables organizations to monitor for risks associated with data exposure on the dark web without exposing them to an expanded vendor-related attack surface. We strive to set a new standard for information security and risk management that can help companies prevent damage, while still holding ourselves to the highest standard in terms of protecting the privacy of their information.”
Terbium also announced today that Subhashish Bhadra, investment principal of Omidyar Network, and Rohyt Belani, CEO of Cofense, will join Terbium’s board of directors, effectively immediately.
“Subhashish’s deep experience in digital identity policy and Rohyt’s success in building early-stage information security companies will help enhance our product development and operations. They will be a tremendous resource, and we welcome them to the team,” said Rogers.
