Cathy Reese: Maryland Women's Lacrosse 'So Special, Year In And Year Out'

As the Maryland women's lacrosse team prepared to play Northwestern in the NCAA Tournament semifinals at Johns Hopkins May 24 – the same matchup the Terps lost in the Big Ten tournament championship three weeks earlier – the other national semifinal just kept going and going.

Boston College pulled out a 15-14 victory against North Carolina in double overtime to advance to the national championship. Two overtimes and a shot-clock issue pushed the start time between Maryland and Northwestern to about 9 p.m. The Terps beat the Wildcats, 25-13, thanks in part to a 14-goal second half. Twenty-five goals were Maryland's most in 15 years, and two days later the Terps captured the 14th NCAA title in program history.

Terps head coach Cathy Reese sensed a positive energy from the moment her team rolled into Hopkins May 24, and a long wait ahead of their semifinal matchup wasn't going to bring down the Terps.
