London Lewis, a junior forward and team captain on the Calvert High School (Md.) girls' varsity soccer team this past fall, was named the U.S. Army Impact Player of the Month.

Lewis, who is committed to play soccer at High Point University (N.C.), eclipsed 20 goals and 20 assists and was an honorable mention selection for The Washington Post's all-metro girls' soccer team in December. Lewis also has taken a leading role in her soccer team's fundraising efforts.

"Coming in as a junior on a strong team with strong leaders already, I had no real thought that she would step right in and be a captain," Calvert girls' soccer coach John Baker said. "I knew she'd be a leader just by the way she played on the field, but the way she came in and participated in offseason conditioning and community events I was like, 'Wow, she's really pushing for a captain.' I was talking to my assistant coaches and we were a little leery about naming a first-year player as a junior a captain of the team, and she didn't let us down."
