The 2019 Governance, Risk and Control (GRC) Conference, jointly presented by ISACA and The Institute of Internal Auditors, will be held August 12-14, 2019 In Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. More than 700 governance, risk, and control professionals from more than 25 countries are expected to attend. The conference will focus on embracing change and disruption as opportunities for innovation.

WHAT:

Dr. Sarbari Gupta will present “Who Is Responsible for the Security of Cloud-Based Information Systems?” as part of Track 3 addressing Governance, Risk, Control & Compliance.

Dr. Gupta asserts that cloud computing offers distinct advantages over traditional hosted systems including hardware footprint reduction, elasticity, delegated security and improved availability. Regardless of the cloud computing model chosen (infrastructure/platform/software-as-a-service), however, the cloud system owner (CSO) still retains significant security responsibility for risk management and compliance. Dr. Gupta will offer a methodology for determining the CSO’s retained security responsibility and an approach for managing the risk of operating cloud-based information systems.

Attendees can expect to come away from the session with a recognition that adoption of cloud services does not imply full delegation of security responsibility; a means for analyzing cloud service offerings to discover the CSO’s retained security responsibility; and an understanding of how to configure and complement security controls provided by cloud services to manage organizational security risk.

WHO:

Sarbari Gupta, PhD, CISSP, CISA,is the Founder, President and CEO of Electrosoft Services, Inc., an information technology services company that solves complex government information technology challenges, especially those related to IT security and information assurance. She’s been recognized as an Outstanding 50 Asian Americans in Business by the Asian American Business Development Center, a Top Minority Business Leader by the Washington Business Journal, a Stellar Woman Contractor by U.S. Women’s Chamber of Commerce and a GovCon Executive of the Year finalist by the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce.
