After two blowout wins, a disheartening loss and a bye week, Maryland football returns to College Park for a prime-time clash with No. 12 Penn State Sept. 27.
It's the 43rd all-time meeting between the programs, with Penn State holding a 39-2-1 advantage. This was a near-annual matchup from 1960-1993, and the series resumed when Maryland joined the Big Ten in 2014. After winning the initial conference tilt, the Terps have lost four straight, and they've been held without a touchdown in 10 straight quarters (Penn State won the last two games 66-3 and 38-3).
The Sept. 27 contest kicks off at 8 p.m. ET on FS1, and not only is it officially a sellout, but Maryland Stadium will have temporary bleachers to accommodate a surplus of student ticket requests. However, as the media-trained players all pointed out this week, it's what happens on the field that matters. Here are some matchups that could swing the outcome.
