DLA Piper announced today that Andrew Young has joined the firm’s Finance practice and Energy sector as a partner in Washington, DC.

Young is an energy regulatory lawyer who concentrates his practice on issues related to the electric energy industry and matters involving and governed by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). His practice includes the representation and regulatory support of investors, lenders, electric utilities, renewable developers, independent power producers, power marketers, qualifying facilities, holding companies, and commercial and industrial consumers in a wide variety of matters.

Young frequently handles mergers and acquisitions, tax equity investments, financings, spin-offs and restructurings, contract negotiation and drafting, the development and re-design of wholesale energy markets, transmission rates, incentives and policies, ancillary services, market-based and cost-based rates, settlement negotiations, administrative hearings, trial and appellate litigation, and advice on state and federal regulatory issues.

He has significant experience with renewable energy projects, including solar, wind, geothermal, biomass, hydroelectric and energy storage projects. He also has experience representing clients before FERC, the Department of Energy, state public utility commissions and federal district and appellate courts.

“Andrew’s experience handling matters before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission will be a fantastic strategic complement to our sector platform,” said Robert Gruendel, global co-chair of DLA Piper’s Energy sector. “He frequently handles regulatory issues involving the electric power markets, and his versatility in this area will strengthen our capabilities significantly.”

“Andrew’s skillset is in high demand, and his addition to our Projects, Energy and Infrastructure team will expand our ability to represent clients in renewable energy projects of all types,” said John Cusack, global co-chair and US chair of DLA Piper’s Finance practice. “We are thrilled to welcome him to the firm.”

Young, who joins from Mayer Brown LLP, received his J.D. from Harvard Law School, and his M.A. and B.A. from the University of Virginia.
