Russ Montgomery, PhD
Ambu Inc., a rapidly growing medical device maker and pioneer of sterile, single-use endoscopes, has named Russ Montgomery, PhD, as Director of Health Economics and Market Access for North America.
Montgomery will manage a team of health economists and reimbursement specialists as he develops and executes strategies to demonstate value and achieve broad market access for Ambu’s growing product lines of single-use endoscopes.
“We are thrilled Russ has joined our growing team,” said Jens Kemp, Vice President of Marketing for Ambu Inc. “He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in both the private and public sectors in areas that include quantitative research and health economics. He will have an immediate impact as we continue to expand our presence in the U.S. market.”
Ambu plans to launch a number of new products in endoscopy in the next several years, including a duodenoscope, colonoscope and gastroscope. In three years’ time Ambu will have a portfolio that is relevant across millions of endoscopy procedures yearly.
Montgomery comes to Ambu from Discern Health, where he was a Vice President responsible for outcomes research, cost analyses, value communication, and market access strategy for pharmaceutical and device manufacturers. For nine previous years, he held positions in state and federal health agencies, including the Maryland Department of Health and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
Montgomery earned his doctorate degree in Health Services Research and Policy in 2015 from the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health, where he concentrated on quantitative research methods and health technology assessment. Five years earlier, he received his Master of Health Science in Health Policy. Montgomery also holds a bachelor of art degree in political science from Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas.
Ambu launched the world’s first single-use flexible bronchoscope, the Ambu® aScope™ in 2009. Ten years later, in 2019, over 600,000 Ambu single-use endoscopes were used in more than 3,500 hospitals making Ambu the world’s largest supplier of single-use endoscopes.
