The civil rights, employment, and whistleblower law firm Katz, Marshall & Banks, LLP today announced that Alia Al-Khatib joined the firm’s Philadelphia office as an associate and Kathryn Evans joined as a litigation fellow in the Washington, D.C. office.

Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Al-Khatib worked as a staff attorney with Justice at Work, where she focused on wage theft, discrimination, and other employment related issues faced by workers in low-wage industries in Pennsylvania. Before that, she was a law fellow at the Southern Poverty Law Center in Miami, Florida, where she litigated and advocated on behalf of people incarcerated in Florida prisons and immigration detention centers. She also worked as a paralegal for a civil rights organization and as a case manager for domestic violence survivors and completed a one-year fellowship focused on gender-based violence in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Ms. Al-Khatib graduated first in her class from American University Washington College of Law and received the Dean's Award for Professional Responsibility for her work in the Immigrant Justice Clinic. After graduation, she clerked for the Honorable Hilda G. Tagle in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas.

Ms. Evans previously worked as an intern in the Immigration and Family Unit at Bronx Legal Services and then at the Gender Equality Law Center, where she worked on employment discrimination cases. She graduated magna cum laude from New York University School of Law, where she was the Digital Executive Editor of the NYU Review of Law and Social Change and served on the board of the Identity Documents Project, which helps TGNCI (transgender, gender non-conforming and intersex) people update their IDs and obtain name changes. She also participated in NYU’s Civil Litigation – Employment Law clinic, where she worked on discrimination and wage and hour cases with the Legal Aid Society of New York, and the LGBTQ Rights Externship where she worked at Lambda Legal.
