Burke & Herbert Bank Appoints Kenneth L. Wainstein to Board

ALEXANDRIA, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Burke & Herbert Bank is pleased to announce that at its meeting of July 21, the Bank’s Board of Directors elected Kenneth L. Wainstein as a new member. Mr. Wainstein is a prominent and well-respected attorney with experience acquired in service to the U.S. government through significant positions in the areas of criminal enforcement and national security. He currently is a partner in the Washington, DC law office of Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP, and is Chair of the firm’s White Collar Defense and Investigations Group. With the addition of Mr. Wainstein, the Bank’s Board of Directors is comprised of twelve individuals who collectively bring a broad range of experience both in and outside of the financial services industry.

Prior to his current position at Cadwalader, Mr. Wainstein served for many years as a federal prosecutor and then held a variety of leadership roles in the Justice Department. These roles included serving as first Assistant Attorney General for National Security, as the United States Attorney for Washington, DC, and as General Counsel and Chief of Staff of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Mr. Wainstein also served as the Homeland Security Advisor for President George W. Bush.

Mr. Wainstein has received a variety of awards and honors for his work. He was recognized with the Edmund J. Randolph Award for Outstanding Service to the Department of Justice, the Department of Justice Director’s Award for Superior Performance, and the Lawyer of the Year Award from the Bar Association of the District of Columbia, and recently was named as a top national security lawyer by Washingtonian magazine. In addition, Mr. Wainstein serves on a host of advisory boards, including for the Central Intelligence Agency and the National Counterterrorism Center, and serves on the Board of Directors for the Center for Cyber and Homeland Security at the George Washington University. Mr. Wainstein earned his B.A. from the University of Virginia and his J.D. from the University of California at Berkeley.
