Until May, hunters roamed the 3,500-acre Berry Hill Industrial Park in Pittsylvania County.
Open for business since 2008, Berry Hill — an undeveloped parcel of land lacking roads, running water or sewer lines — has long awaited its first economic development project.
In June, it arrived when Atlanta-based Southern Power signed a purchase and sale agreement option, agreeing to begin preliminary work on a 300-acre natural-gas-powered electrical plant in the mega-park. It is the first company to show interest in developing on the property.
