Transwestern today announces it represented DPR Construction in a 20,000-square-foot lease at 11109 Sunset Hills Road in Reston, Virginia. DPR chose to relocate to a building that would facilitate its sustainability goals, including pursuing LEED® v4 certification from the U.S. Green Building Council and Net-Zero Energy (NZE) certification from the International Living Future Institute. Transwestern’s Fielding Muir represented DPR Construction in the 10-year agreement.
“Current market conditions presented an opportunity for DPR to better position itself for future growth and offer an attractive workplace for its employees,” said Muir. “The new office allows DPR to showcase its sustainable construction services and provides proximity to its client base, the Metro and numerous amenities at Reston Town Center and Plaza America.”
The office is eligible for NZE certification after a year of occupancy and would be one of the first commercial private sector NZE projects in the Washington, D.C., area. DPR has previously completed four NZE-certified projects, meaning the projects produce as much or more energy than they consume annually.
DPR Construction currently occupies half of the two-story building. Some of the project features include a new front entrance, an open, flexible floorplan, fitness facility and LEED® enhancements such as skylights, LED lighting, solar panels and an energy-efficient plug-load management system, which automatically shuts down plugged in electronic devices when a building is not in use.
