Roanoke-Blacksburg Technology Council CEO Jonathan Whitt submitted a letter of resignation Monday, setting Nov. 4 as his last day with the nonprofit that aims to bolster the region’s tech industry.
RBTC board members said the news wasn’t a complete surprise, as Whitt previously told them that the organization would need someone with a different set of interests and skills as it prepares for its next phase of growth.
“I really applaud his courage for doing that and for saying, ‘As we move forward as an organization you guys are going to need skills that aren’t necessarily in my wheelhouse,’ ” board Chairman Robert McAden said.
Board member Sam English said the companies that make up the RBTC have different needs than they did when the organization was created decades ago. Whitt contributed to that planning and helped lay the groundwork.
