Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage is pleased to announce that Dupont-Logan affiliated agent Pooya Rezai, a long-standing humanitarian, has been named Reservist Recovery Coordination Crew Leader for FEMA. Reservists are the main FEMA workforce during an emergency or disaster.

A native of Iran and former U.S. Marine, Rezai will be part of the National Disaster Recovery Support cadre, where he will assist in facilitating disaster recovery coordination and collaboration between the Federal, State, tribal, and local governments, private sector, and voluntary and faith-based community organizations.

Having experienced displacement as a child due to war and political turmoil in his birth country, Rezai has long understood the value and security of having a home and stability. This has guided him toward helping others in his personal and professional life. Most recently, he made multiple trips to the Greek island of Lesbos aiding refugees as they made landfall by boat fleeing conflict and war zones. As a certified open water lifeguard and emergency medical technician, Rezai joined the Emergency Response Centre International, a Greek nonprofit organization that provides emergency response and humanitarian aid in times of crisis. During this time, he also trained lifeguards and provided translation support for various refugee camps, which he continues remotely from Washington, D.C.

“I’m eager to start my position with FEMA,” said Rezai. “I feel a real empathy for people suffering and can sense what they’re going through from my own experience as a child. It’s in these times that my conscience calls out to me to extend a line of love and help out whenever and wherever I can.”

A fluent speaker of Farsi, Rezai’s humanitarian calling goes beyond rescue missions, having previously worked with MSF (Doctors Without Borders) to give vaccinations to children. He also created NooshTube, an online community built in response to the growing number of displaced ethnic populations to allow people from all backgrounds to share their love of culture, food, and tradition.

Rezai moved to Washington D.C. from southern California and recently joined the Dupont-Logan offices of Coldwell Banker. Among the clients he has helped, Rezai recently collaborated with Coldwell colleagues and a local Arabic translator to help an Iraqi refugee family find a suitable place to live. The combination of his life experience and present career motivate him in helping others to find a place to call home.

He and his wife are expecting their first baby in December.
