The Virginia Beach Development Authority has approved the sale of nearly 70 acres of a former golf course and $1.8 million in incentives to a company that plans to build “green” batteries.
Global Technical Systems will build a 540,000-square-foot manufacturing facility on part of the former Owl’s Creek Golf Course property on Birdneck Road.
The company plans to invest nearly $55 million in the project and hire 1,100 people. An employment training program for residents of the surrounding Seatack neighborhood is planned.
GTS will develop about 30 acres and pay $1.2 million for the land. The company will pay about $282,000 annually in real estate taxes to the city.
