Set to complete in the Spring of 2021, the 162,000 SF project includes an 11-story, new office tower and a re-development of the five-story,historic bank building which is a signature architectural piece at this well-known intersection. The new office tower will include a rooftop terrace, an 11th floor terrace and open-air balconies on every floor. Many of The Bank Building’s historical features will be preserved and restored, such as its large safe vault, original pendant chandelier, operable windows, artesian quality millwork and ornate plaster ceilings, and will serve as a backdrop for substantial retail planned for the building.
Though the topping-out celebration has been postponed in consideration of the current pandemic, the placement of the final concrete pour for the new office tower’s penthouse level on this $162 million re-development project was carried out on July 29,2020.
“We are thrilled to announce the “topping out” of The Bank Building, said Brandon Ernst, executive senior vice president of Lincoln’s Mid-Atlantic region. “Just one year ago this development was not much more than a hole in the ground. Every project has its unique challenges and The Bank Building has continued to move forward despite an unprecedented pandemic. It has been amazing to watch the collaboration of the development team as they react quickly to the challenges brought on by COVID-19. Over the last 12 months the onsite team has driven over 50 piles, poured 10,000 cubic yards of concrete, placed over 1,100 tons of rebar, and laid 52 miles of post-tension cables. The project has kept momentum and maintained the development schedule while operating under the ever-changing safety guidelines. It would be too difficult to name all of the highly-skilled team members who have contributed to this milestone, but I would like to recognize our partner Cara Real Estate, architect Shalom Baranes Associates, general contractor Manhattan Construction Company, and extend a special thanks to our surrounding neighbors for their patience and understanding.”
Brandon added, “We are very excited about the future of our development and are looking forward to delivery of what we feel is the most unique office and retail development in Washington, D.C. in the 1st quarter of 2021.”
Currently, there is 162,000 SF of trophy office and retail space available with lease discussions on-going with several interested parties. Lincoln Property Company, the exclusive leasing company for the project, is represented by Adam Biberaj, Merrill Turnbull, Beth Wilzbach and Devin Corini (Retail).
