Locally based online grocer Relay Foods announced Wednesday that it has entered into a definitive merger agreement with Door to Door Organics, a Colorado-based online grocer.
The combined company plans to operate under a new brand to be disclosed later this year and will serve consumers in 63 markets across 18 states and Washington, D.C.
Relay Foods has been looking to become a national player in the online grocery industry, particularly in the natural and organic food space, said Derek Mansfield, Relay Foods’ chief revenue officer. The two companies’ leadership teams had met previously at conferences, he said, but really only started talking about merging at the beginning of this year.
