Virginia International Gateway, the Port of Virginia’s second-largest container terminal, was closed to inbound truck traffic through most of Wednesday because of an information-technology issue that began about mid-morning.
Virginia Port Authority police cruisers were seen on the exit ramps to Virginia International Gateway Boulevard in Portsmouth for much of the day.
Big rigs that had been queued up outside the terminal a little before noon were gone by 2 p.m., and the gate appeared deserted.
By about 4:30 p.m., the port’s IT team had begun to bring systems back online and to recover data resources, according to a port operations alert.
