Beneath Our Feet, An Almost Forgotten Pipeline

The last rays of sunlight touch the skyline and cast long shadows over the city as cars ebb and flow out of the Exxon gas station parking lot located at exit 94 off of Interstate 81.

About three feet beneath the parking lot’s surface is a buried 20-inch natural gas pipeline owned by Columbia Gas Transmission.

Many of the weary travelers stopping in at Exxon are strangers to the area and unaware of a local debate brewing for the last two years regarding the safety of pipelines and natural gas in the region.
